FINANCIAL LITERACY POETRY CONTEST (For K-12 students)

Did you know that April is Financial Literacy AND Poetry month?  To celebrate, the Kentucky Council on Economic Education (KCEE )and Citizens Union Bank (CUB) invite students to enter their "Financial Literacy Poetry Contest". Subject of poem must be focused on financial literacy (suggested vocabulary: advertise, bank, budget, buy, checks, consumer, credit, debit, expenses, income, investment, money, price save, wants, spend, etc) A $50 savings bond is awarded to winner in each division and winners are invited the the KCEE Awards Dinner on June 23. . FREE Financial Fitness for Life workshop for teachers Grades 6-12 offered by EKU Center
@ EKU's Perkins Building, Richmond, KY

Monday, May 11, from 9:00-noon
Financial Fitness for Life uses a fitness-themed approach to help students apply economics and decision-making skills to the real world of earning and spending an income, savings, using credit, and managing money.  Participants will receive the Financial Fitness for Life Curriculum kit, lunch, and PD certificate.  You must register through EKU by May 4.  See flyer for registration info.


Consumer Economics and Personal Finance for Teachers ECO807 -
Online 3-credit graduate course offered by EKU Center for Middle and High School teachers

May 18-August 7 - totally online and self-paced

As part of a research grant, we are able to offer this online, three-credit graduate course to practicing Kentucky middle- and high-school teachers with a special incentive package that will help pay for much of the costs of tuition. Chocolate Economics Workshop for Elementary Teachers, Grades K-5 offered by EKU Center
@ Ruth Hunt Candy Company in Mt. Sterling, KY

Monday, June 8, from 9:00-noon
This “tasty” curriculum uses a chocolate theme to teach elementary school lessons that directly correlate with the national content standards in economics. The creative activities are stimulating for young students and allow for active learning. Activities have clear, thorough instructions, and all required game pieces, flash cards, worksheets, and activity cards are included for duplication. Children’s literature is incorporated.

Participants will receive the curriculum, lunch, and PD certificate.  There is a $10 fee, and you must register with EKU before May 26.  See flyer for registration info.

Learn step-by-step practical instructions for operating a classroom business that can be an excellent tool for encouraging students to think more entrepreneurially. Each participant will receive a copy of Entrepreneurs In Kentucky and a packet of resources for holding your own Entrepreneurship Fair--from parent letters, to business proposal forms, budget forms, advertising activities and more.
