Eight hundred thirty teams, involving over 3,900 students, from 95 schools, participated in the Stock Market Game in Kentucky.  Over a period of 15 weeks, teams of students researched companies, made investment decisions, and built their portfolios, investing $100,000 in imaginary money in stocks on the NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ. At the end of the competition, teams are ranked on equity in portfolio. Teachers were provided with educational resources and lessons to teach students about investing, capital formation, the stock market, and the economy.

The first place prize is $300, second place is $200, and 3rd place is $100 to be used by the school, class, or team and $50 for a class pizza party. Students on these teams will also receive class trophies, and SMG medals at the Kentucky Council on Economic Education Annual Awards program in June, 2004.  First place regional winners will receive $50 (for the team or class party) and SMG medals.
