Three hundred and thirteen teams, involving 1,374 students, from 42 schools, participated in the Stock Market Game in Kentucky.  Over a period of 10 weeks, teams of students researched companies, made investment decisions, and built their portfolios, investing $100,000 in imaginary money in stocks on the NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ. At the end of the competition, teams are ranked on equity in portfolio. Teachers were provided with educational resources and lessons to teach students about investing, capital formation, the stock market, and the economy. KCEE also offers a Take Stock in Kentucky investment education program in which 310 teams of 1,667 students at 50 schools participated.

The first place prize is $300, second place is $200, and 3rd place is $100 to be used by the school, class, or team, plus $50 for a class pizza party. Students on these teams will also receive class trophies, and SMG medals at the Kentucky Council on Economic Education Annual Awards program in June, 2004.  First place regional winners will receive $50 (for the team or class party) and SMG medals.
