11. SMG Competitions

Most class teams who are registered for the Stock Market Game will be competing against other teams in their state or organization. (Teams will be ranked by their portfolio values--"equity in portfolio".)  Ranking reports are accessible from team portfolio pages--the link is on the left of the bottom frame. Depending on your division, rankings may be updated daily or weekly (usually on Sunday).  Teams may also be ranked regionally as well as statewide.

The section Understanding Portfolios of the Teacher Support Center will show you (and students) how to access the Ranking reports online.

The goal of the Stock Market Game is to teach students about markets and investing.  But, it's the competition that keeps students motivated to learn. You will find students who have no interest whatsoever in learning about the stock market (or learning anything for that matter!), who will suddenly take interest when their portfolio creeps toward the top of the rankings!

Some divisions also offer prizes and awards for top ranking teams. Others offer prizes and awards for Portfolio Presentations or Research Contests.  (Check with your SMG Coordinator for further info.)
