Take Stock in Kentucky TSIK (PowerPoint Overview)
In this Kentucky Stock Market Game
competition, students use the same Internet simulation as the Stock Market Game,
but will invest only in Kentucky companies. Teams of 2-6 students will build a
portfolio of Kentucky investments starting with $100,000 in imaginary funds over
a period of 10 weeks. The companies they will research and invest in are
headquartered in Kentucky, companies that have state offices or subsidiaries, or
companies that are of special interest to the economy of Kentucky. Use
with your curriculum unit on Kentucky!!
We have kept the list to around 250 stocks - in order for students to be able to focus on a relatively small group of companies on which to base their research. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about business in their local community and Kentucky economics.
Teachers registering for the Take Stock in Kentucky program will receive in the mail a copy of the "Take Stock in Kentucky" curriculum with 16 easy to use lessons focused on research of the Kentucky economy and business and on Kentucky Economics Core Content for grades 4-12, covering concepts like opportunity cost, producers, consumers, scarcity, interdependence, markets, profit, and more!
Competitions and Awards!
- Best Portfolio -
The first place statewide team will receive $300 cash, 2nd place $200 cash,
and 3rd placed $100 cash. The top teams in the state received t-shirts.
The top team in each region of this competition will receive Take Stock in Kentucky
t-shirts and $50 for the team or class (to be determined by teacher).

- Best PowerPoint - Teams
have the opportunity to submit their own PowerPoint presentation for the "Portfolio
Company Presentation" competition. This presentation will focus on
research of a company in their team portfolio, with evidence of research,
charting, and analysis. See Portfolio Presentation guidelines below for
more information. $100 goes to the first place team. (only if 5 or more
different school entries are received!)
- Best Essay - Students can also enter the National InvestWrite competition and win great prizes. www investwrite.info
