International Showcase workshop - In celebration of International Education Week, teachers in grades 3-6 are invited to a special International Showcase workshop to be held at Central Bank in Richmond on Friday, November 19, from 8:30am-2:30pm.  Cynthia Harter and Lisa Saylor (EKU Center) will engage the teachers in activities that cover basic personal finance and entrepreneurship topics with an emphasis on international connections.  In today’s world of increasing globalization, it is more important than ever for students to understand these connections.  Teachers will actively participate in lessons from a variety of CEE publications, and will receive copies of many of these – including Resources A to Z, What Personal Finance is About, and Economics & Entrepreneurship:  Operating a Classroom Business in Elem. and Middle School.  The curricula are designed to actively engage inquisitive students.  The day will include a catered lunch and lots of door prizes!.  PD certificates will also be distributed at the end of the day.

 There is a refundable registration fee of $20 if you register by Friday, November 12.  See details below.

 KCEE Personal Finance Challenge 2011 - Begin preparing for the 2011 KCEE Personal Finance Challenge!   The preliminary/qualifying round will be available from March 14 through March 22, 2011 and the State Competition will be held in early April, hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis-Louisville Branch.   Try some of the questions...Watch for more info soon! 

 


ECO 807 @ EKU – Teaching Consumer Economics & Personal Finance for Teachers

Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland 2011 Creative Writing contest - High school teachers –
how can you challenge your students to think critically about economics, public policy and social change?
Encourage them to enter the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s 2011 creative writing contest, Be the Change You Want to See!

Students should submit a creatively written composition of their choice (including essays, short stories, poems, and plays) to explain how they would like to change their community through volunteer efforts.

How will your students help make the world a better place? In their composition, they should think logically about the details and motivations of their volunteer program, the costs and benefits of their enterprise, and all consequences – intended and unintended – of their proposed solution.
